How to Use Discussion Forums to Benefit Your Internet Business

Monday, May 10th, 2010

Discussion forums offer several benefits to Internet marketers if they use them correctly. However, many people spend time in discussion forums and are not really benefiting from them as much as they could. In this article we will talk about a few ways you can use discussion forums to benefit your Internet business more than you may currently be doing.

1. One key thing you can do is join only a couple of discussion forums at first. If you are currently not doing much marketing in discussion forums there are a couple reasons why you don’t want to join too many forums all of once. One reason for this is you want to get a feel for how the forum works. You can’t do that if you are constantly jumping from one forum to the next.

Another reason is discussion forums offer an actual way for you to market your business once you become a known entity within them. The best way to do this is to get involved in the discussions as quickly as possible and start to build up your reputation within the forum.

2. When you are participating in the forums never used them to promote your business or products in the posts themselves. If you will just participate by providing quality useful information people will appreciate that and you will begin to become known as a person who is well liked and trusted.

3. Take the time to set up a very simple signature file that includes who you are, and what you have to offer. Of course you want to include a hyperlinked keyword phrase that leads to your website, blog or landing page.

4. There will be times when you really don not feel like participating in the discussion and that’s okay. Discussion forums are an excellent place to get free information that can help you build your business too.

There is no charge to join a discussion forum and you may just want to spend some time reading the various posts that there are. This is an excellent way to come up with ideas on future content for your own website or blog.

How to Get Website Traffic from Message Boards

Monday, May 10th, 2010

One of the quickest ways to get targeted traffic to your website is to post in forums. Done correctly, you will attract the people most interested in and passionate about your niche. Done incorrectly, you will waste your time.

Make a list of forums and discussion boards in your niche. Use a bookmark folder to save them and keep them organized. After you have a large list, evaluate the sites to see which ones you should post on. Look at the quality of the posts. Are the posts from people interested in the niche, or has the board been taken over by rampant unrelated posts? If the board is low quality, move on.

Some message boards do not have their rules posted. Look at popular threads to see if other members have links in their signature files. If no one else does, it might not be the place for you. If you feel the message board is worth posting on, try and see. If you are asked to remove the link, comply and do not argue. You can find more suitable message boards.

Do not start out by posting new threads, unless there is a forum for introductions. It is common message board etiquette to observe the forum before posting. Since you want to get your message out as soon as possible, you do want to start posting right away. Find a popular and recent post, see how other people have responded, and add your input. Do not write lengthy replies. Try to keep the length of your replies similar to what others use.

To maximize your traffic generation from message boards, follow these rules. First, limit your time to posting online. You can spend all day reading with few replies and feel that you have spent the day working. Spend one to two hours a day posting on message boards. Be sure you are spending your time posting, and not reading all the replies. Post in the more popular topics.

Post on more than one, but no more than twenty. You want people to get to know you, so you do not want to spread yourself out too thin. On the other hand, the less forums you post on the less people you have the potential to reach. Although your writing does not have to be perfect, use correct grammar and spelling so that others can understand you. Be polite and helpful. If someone asks a question, answer them even if you need to do a quick online search.
